Soaring Pig Studios exists to solve communication problems that do not respond well to templates, volume, or generic marketing.
The work sits at the intersection of strategy, perception, and execution. It is shaped by pattern recognition and by understanding how messages move through organizations and communities.
Soaring Pig Studios is often the missing piece in solving communications and marketing puzzles. Clients bring Soaring Pig Studios in when they need a clear-eyed second set of judgment before something goes public, political, or permanent.
I work with a small number of organizations at any given time, often under contract or in long-term advisory roles. The focus is not merely on output. It is clarity, alignment, and communication that holds up under real-world conditions.
AI is used where appropriate to test assumptions, analyze patterns, and reduce friction. It is never used as a substitute for judgment or accountability.

I’m Stephen Dafoe, founder of Soaring Pig Studios.
My background spans nearly three decades in digital and traditional publishing, marketing, and visual storytelling, including 18 years in community news. That work required understanding how information is interpreted under real conditions, including incomplete attention, existing bias, emotional response, and public scrutiny.
I’ve written, co-written, or contributed to more than a dozen books, along with years of long-form journalism and editorial work. Writing at that level teaches discipline, structure, and accountability—skills that carry directly into strategic communication.
In addition to my professional communications work, I served 12 years as an elected municipal official and as a member of multiple municipal and regional boards. That experience fundamentally shaped how I approach communication. It teaches you how messages move through institutions, how optics affect trust, and how quickly poorly framed information can create unnecessary problems.
I have worked in environments where decisions are scrutinized, public response matters, and clarity is not optional. That perspective informs every strategy I develop and every recommendation I make.
I do not operate as an agency and I do not chase volume. Clients work with me because they need senior-level judgment, discretion, and communication that anticipates how it will actually land.
My work is grounded in practical experience, but it is supported by formal training in modern marketing strategy, digital systems, and applied communications. These credentials reflect that foundation.
